THANK YOU TO OUR ANNUAL SPONSORS!

CLE Credit Sponsor

EPCWC will be providing CLE credit for the March 4 dinner courtesy of our CLE sponsor, the Westchester Bar Association.

Join us on March 4 at 5:40 PM when we take a page from the speed dating handbook at our fun and informal “Getting to Know You” round robin!  This month, instead of our free-form networking reception, you’ll meet for a drink at high top tables, where we’ll pose the same question for all your table mates to answer. In about ½ hour, after a few quick table switches, you will have talked to 10 people, and learned something new about each one (that’s not work related!)

RSVP cutoff is 5PM Wednesday Feb 25th, 2026

Space permitting, late registrations may be accommodated through 5pm Monday March 2nd, 2026.  Note we make no warranty that late registration will be available for any event. Late registrations shall require both a Late Fee of $25 AND a refundable registration deposit of $25.  Registration deposits are refunded within three business days as long as the registrant attends the meeting.

If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please email [email protected]. Cancellations must be made by 5PM 7 calendar days prior to the date of the event.  Cancellations made after this point (and no shows) will not be issued back the $25 deposit.

Reservations are on a first come, first served basis.

Seating is limited.

Member Fee is $0 (+ $25 refundable deposit)

Administering Trusts and Estate Planning Transactions:

Reviewing Cases and Takeaways to Consider

Many clients believe that their estate planning is complete once they sign documents. However, as many important court decisions highlight, the IRS often challenges transactions based on the failure of the taxpayers to properly administer their planning. Cases such as Galli, Rowland, Connelly, Sorensen, Smaldino and Levine highlighted the importance of proper documentation and implementation of planning. While these cases present a plethora of substantive law issues worthy of discussion, this program will focus on the practical lessons for estate planning professionals of all disciplines, and for clients of all wealth levels, about how to plan considering the lessons of these cases. Understanding what was done right or wrong provides valuable guidance on how to better structure and implement estate plans.

The following topics and much more will be discussed:

  • What steps can clients take to reduce the risk of the step transaction doctrine?
  • How to implement and administer a defined value clause?
  • What steps should be taken in terms of tax reporting, entity records and trust records to support a Wandry clause or other planning steps?
  • Considerations of client’s sophistication and comfort level may inform planning that is undertaken.
  • Related party transactions are subject to close scrutiny. What does that mean for planning?
